Shibori Pattern.

Kate uses the many Shibori techniques as a toolbox with which to create pattern and to explore colour. She manipulates the fabric using stitches, folds, blocks and clamps to dictate the flow and access of dye. For Kate, the pleasure of creating her work is derived as much from the process as the outcome.

Itajime Shibori.

This form of Shibori can be both wonderfully subtle but dramatic. Many decisions are made with each stage of the process; the way the fabric is folded, the shape, size and number of wooden blocks used, the colours chosen. The magic is in the big reveal at the end, when the clamps and blocks are taken away and the silk is unfolded.
