Biography.

Kate Beale.

Kate is an artist working in North London. She began her practice later in life, having originally studied and worked as an occupational therapist. It was after the birth of her second child that she took up a part time diploma course in textile art whilst living in Melbourne, Australia. A workshop in rural Victoria teaching the art of Shibori dye craft particularly captivated her imagination, and has informed her artwork ever since.

Kate’s work is strongly influenced by organic shapes and bold colours. Other mediums used in her practice are stitch, print and felt. She has recently taken her first steps into Photoshop pattern design, using her drawings, paintings and photography.

Kate is part of the textile art collective, Textiles 2020, formed by students of the Citylit Advanced Textiles course. Their first exhibition “Construction Site” took place in between lockdowns in December 2020. Their second exhibition “Stories in Stitch” took place earlier this year at Espacio Gallery, London.
